It plays a vital role in both your personal and professional life. Whether you are in an interview, giving presentations or sitting at home- communication is always there. The way we communicate though, changes according to the situation that we are in.We communicate all the time. Yes!!! All the time. When you do not like your coffee and you make that ugly face- you are communicating. When you constantly ogle at a guy/girl from the corner of your eye, yes, you are communicating. (And you thought nobody noticed!)Communication is not only when you speak. In fact 80% of the communication is non verbal. No kidding! Non verbal communication is stronger and more effective than the verbal communication, thus making it all the more important to master. When we interact and communicate with others, we constantly give and receive wordless signals. All our nonverbal behaviours- the gestures we make, the way we sit, the tone and pitch with which we talk, how close or far we stand, eye contact we make- they all send messages, a strong message rather. These messages do not stop even when we stop speaking. Even when we are silent, we are communicating nonverbally. (Can you now understand why you had a fight with your wife even when you did not say anything?)Often, what we speak and what we communicate through our body language and expressions are two totally different things. While facing these mixed clues, the listener has to choose whether to believe your verbal message or the nonverbal message, and, in most of the cases, they choose to believe the nonverbal message because it is a natural, unconscious language that truly broadcasts our true feelings, reactions and intentions in the given moment.
